Sarah Johnson, Academic Support Counselor

Sarah Johnson, Academic Support Counselor
After growing up in Tampa, I moved north to earn a B.S. and an M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University. Previously I worked in Northwestern's diagnostic and remediation clinics and taught students of all ages, focusing on intervention for students with learning differences, ADHD, and executive functioning challenges. Most recently I directed a department of learning and behavioral specialists at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, an ISACs-accredited independent school in Chicago. In 2015, I became certified as an Exceptional Needs Specialist by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. After 14 winters in Chicago and the birth of my son, my husband and I decided to move "home" to Tampa, which brought me to Tampa Prep. I love helping students to maximize their potential, recognize their strengths and find success at school. I am also passionate about working with teachers, parents and students to develop a school culture that normalizes and celebrates differences in the way that people think and learn. In my free time, you'll find me cooking, reading, going to the beach, traveling to Maine in the summer and my husband's native Scotland, playing with my goofy son, Jasper, and our goofy dog, Wallace.
